“We want to offer every student and employee a dry, warm, and clean learning environment.”

GO! education is the Flemish public institution for community education. GO!  is one of three educational networks in addition to officially and freely subsidized education. GO! has 1000 institutions for nursery, primary, secondary and adult education and more than 38,000 staff members. In full-time education, GO! serves about 15-20% of the Flemish school population with 330,000 students.

Give direction to the future

Eric Noels, technical advisor explains: “Through a global infrastructure policy, GO! wants to give direction to the future. Hysopt’s Digital Twin has ensured complete transparency within the heating and cooling installations of the GO! infrastructure. It was possible for GO! to enforce a maximum impact with a minimum of manpower”.

Three objectives were defined in advance, to which the Hysopt Digital Twin had to contribute to the GO! energy and sustainability policy:

  • A global approach to the buildings.
  • Help map out the lifecycle costs.
  • The individual measures had to be part of a long-term and integrated approach to the outer shell and the applied techniques.

Previous methods brought along some challenges, which have been overcome since the use of the Hysopt Digital Twin. Beforehand, it was noticeable that the promised performance was quite different from the expectations that were set beforehand. This created a feeling of uncertainty for the owner, as it was rather challenging to maintain the initial budget correctly.

The use of the Hysopt’s Digital Twin

Because of the sustainability objectives, GO! was required to act. Optimising its heating and cooling installation was a manageable and clear way for GO! to make a positive climate impact. “With a minimum number of technicians, we can force a maximum output through from our HVAC designers in terms of hydraulics and especially energy, which is becoming increasingly important taking the EU Green Deal fit for 55 into account”.

GO! decided to add the use of the Hysopt software in the specifications of mandatory consumption. The use of the software ensures that all future discussions can be seen from an objective science-based stance. This protects the integrity of the design. After seeing the results of the Design&Built projects GO! will apply the Hysopt software on the classic projects as well.
