Retro-fitting heat pumps in non-domestic buildings: busting the myths

Retro-fitting heat pumps in non-domestic buildings: busting the myths

How can heat pumps deliver both low carbon and low running costs? Together with Tim Rippon from Newcastle City Council, we will dispel the myths that heat pumps need to operate at high temperatures in existing buildings.

Retro-fitting heat pumps in commercial buildings: busting the myths

Introduction

As the role for heat decarbonisation becomes more critical to achieve challenging net zero targets, transitioning from fossil fuels to electricity offers an attractive approach. Heat pumps have already proven to be one of the most popular solutions due to their potential for immediate carbon savings.

However, heat pumps are not a “like for like” replacement for gas boilers, so best practice designs are always essential for successful deployment.

A common myth: Due to high price differences between gas and electricity and high operating temperatures in existing buildings, its simply not possible to have low carbon and low energy costs at the same time.

At Hysopt we have proven otherwise!

Together with Tim Rippon from our client Newcastle City Council, we will dispel the myths that heat pumps need to operate at high temperatures in existing buildings. During an interactive Q&A session we’ll explain how correct design and integration of heat pumps as replacement for gas boilers in existing non-domestic buildings has helped the Council to:

  • maximise carbon savings;
  • ensure low running costs;
  • minimise capital investment costs;
  • close performance gaps.

Tim will also explain how Hysopt “digital twins” are helping the Council to shape their long-term heat decarbonisation strategy.
